There was a good reason why this was unpublished. It wasn’t very good. It just didn’t seem like Doc Savage to me. If only we could pop over to the alternate universe where Philip Jose Farmer had written those
Doc Savage stories he had planned! The sequel to the last Doc Savage novel! The story wher Doc goes after
the man who caused the great depression! I would rather read the entertaining Doc Savage fan fiction off the internet than read
a novel like Flight Into Fear again.
Probably the worst Doc novel. Will Murray edited this from what I understood was a non-Doc novel. I’ve read he later regreted doing so.
Basically it had the great weakness of The Red Spider__Doc was just another spy. At least Red Spider had Doc’s aides in it.

Ah, as disliked as the story was by many, that wrap-around cover made it worth the cost of the book. How many times have we been treated to one shot of Doc and his entire crew? This is it.
In truth, I think some of the Murray stuff was quite good. I read this book one time in my college days – and recently read it again. It’s not a Doc. Feels like the book is okay but it’s the type of adventure that does not read like those from Doc Savage canon (but I have not seen documentation that there are regrets for it). Stay tuned for DESERT DEVILS and HORROR IN GOLD which may be done if a publisher is found.

I do respect Lester Dent and all he did to create Doc Savage, and I love have Will Murray has kept his legacy alive. But this book is painful to read, I very rarely give up on a book, but on this one I might have to. This is not my Doc, He acts, speaks, and is so out of character.
