The key to remember is that Dent wasn’t talking about his novels. He penned this article for a magazine for writers. He was giving away his method to write slam-bang short stories.

Correction to the correction (possessing, in my library, a copy of every Bantaam Doc Savage book): the average Doc Savage book is arranged in 44 printed lines per page, 7 words per line in approximately 120 pages. Correcting for spacing at each chapter beginning, the average Doc Savage book is 35,000 words. But the advice still holds, just write four, 8,750 word “chunks.”

Dent didn’t write “6000″ word Doc novels. They were closer to 60,000.

I have been a fan of Doc since I was 12 years. The worst thing I ever saw that was made about Doc was the movie. They took a great idea and turned it into a joke..The whole thing was “campy” at best. I sure would like to see some one try it one more time..
